Before we use JTRAC, issue management became a nightmare and we needed to go through emails to track issues, not to mention how tired it was to manually update issues in excel spreadsheet and synchronize it with lots of people. Then, I found JTRAC in sourceforge, read the manual for a while and amazed how easy it is to install and use it! The application is user friendly, and now it has helped us to manage more than 100 issues with more than 20 people involved in a month!

Thanks!

(JTRAC version 2.2.0-dev5)

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Issue Tracking

Just FWIW, Sun has a repository which is compatible with both Maven 1 and Maven 2. You can find information about this repository here:

https://maven-repository.dev.java.net/

But, a better solution is to use the open source implementations of almost all the Java Enterprise APIs from the Apache Geronimo project. You can find these under:

http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/geronimo/specs

This group is going to contain everything you need, it has the el API available.

Tim O'Brien
http://www.sonatype.com/book/

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Case Studies

With jTrac it is very easy to setup multiple workspaces and define your own customized workflow and custom fields for each workspace.
JDeveloper - the nicest combination of power yet easy to use. It's like IntelliJ IDEA only faster, more straightforward and free. Eclipse is a bit too non-standard (even if it is very popular). Compare hotkey default mappings: JDeveloper, IDEA and Netbeans share many hotkeys and Eclipse is the odd one out.

Forum category: Java Power Tools / Latest News
Forum thread: New Poll: What Java IDE do you use

The focus in this book appears to be "green field" or new projects - which is great.
Eventually a project releases and membership changes as people move on and are replaced by new members. I've found the following tools useful when arriving at a new project or job.

Doxygen: Doxygen home page a free, open source, code cross referencer that has added diagramming tools to depict relationships between modules

Understand for Java:Understand product page not free (about $495) but easier to use than Doxygen. Also supports C/C++. I really like the support provided for observing a project from a global graphical level and then drilling into code and exploring relationships. It's great for doing impact analysis of refactoring and changes.

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Cool Tools

I prefer using eclipse, but I tried Netbeans 5.5 and I must say I like it.
Currently working on a project with Oracle technology, so JDeveloper is being used there.
Although it has very good integration with Oracle tools, I do not feel that it has reached yet the quality and performance enhancements that the other two give you. But Oracle is working hard on improving it, and every release seems to be better than the previous.

Still want to try IntelliJ …

Forum category: Java Power Tools / Latest News
Forum thread: New Poll: What Java IDE do you use

Hmm, well The Fractal Class Composition is a design technique, but it is backed-up by a Java static code analyser: Fractality. I'm not sure whether you're particularly interested in dependency management strategies like this, though; most shops concentrate on mavenesque build and deployment dependency strategies rather than design-level dependencies.

See:
http://www.edmundkirwan.com/fracdoc/frac-page10.html

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Cool Tools

Even though v6 has been out for a while, I'm still developing in IDEA IntelliJ 5.1.2 — pretty-much the best balance between features and speed. When the folks at IDEA get their act together and concentrate on performance (and only performance) and release a v6 version that is as fast as v5, I'll upgrade. That said, IntelliJ is by far the best IDE I've ever used by a large margin.

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Java IDEs
